Also very worried, as it remains one of my favorite reads
I read the original novel many times when I was a teenager, decades ago. It’s a great story with very effective imagery, highly recommended, if a little dated – published in 1949, seventy-five years ago. Although I’ve often wondered over the years if it would ever become a film, I wasn’t expecting this limited series adaptation, so I was very surprised when it came out. “People come and go, but the land remains” is a quote I’ve heard a lot.
I finished it with, “Wow!
I watched the first episode with some trepidation. That was really good!” Seeing Ish staring into the smoke from Em’s house brought the imagery of the book to life. Of course, it’s been modernized in many ways by necessity, but important aspects of the plot remain largely unchanged. The rattlesnake bite, finding Lucky the dog (the princess in the book), Milt and Anne.
“World Without End!”
Other changes, like limiting Ish’s trip to just Las Vegas rather than Atlantic City, make sense and aren’t critical to the character interactions. Plus, the way the book is structured makes a limited series a great choice for production. I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of this series. “One Hundred Years of Solitude” is one of the biggest TV and streaming releases this month.
